More on Second Hand shops…

The third important rule of thrift store shopping is to know the average price for an item.  Many thrift stores will sell shoes at a fair price but these shoes can often be bought new at retail stores during their clearance sales.  Know your merchandise before you buy it and you’ll save yourself a lot of money.  The same is true for name brand clothing.  Occasionally thrift stores are unsure of the retail cost of clothing items and they may actually charge you more than the actual retail price.  Know what the cost of the item is brand new before you buy it used, especially if it is a designer label item.

The fourth most important rule of thrift store shopping is to examine all clothing items carefully before you buy them.  Many thrift stores don’t accept returns, therefore you should be sure the item is in good condition before you buy it.  Check carefully for stains, rips, broken zippers or missing buttons before you buy.  If you can’t sew or do minor repairs on garments be especially careful when purchasing second hand clothing items.

Finally, in order to find the most bargains you need to shop often.  Consignment stores are always accepting items from people everyday; therefore it stands to reason that their merchandise selection will constantly be changing.  Some stores also receive new merchandise on certain days of the week so find out when those days are and get there early on those days.

Finding a diamond in the rough at a thrift store can be an exhilarating experience.  Many shoppers find new designer items with tags still on them or hard to find antique glassware item.  The bargains are there to find, you just need to know when and where to look for them.
