More on Garage Sales..

Consider calling a garage sale ad if you aren’t sure what they are selling. For example, if an ad has “coffee table”, first call the seller and asks what kind of table is it, how large is it, and what color it is. If the coffee table is not what you are looking for, then you’ve saved a trip.

Finding a Gift for the Hard to Shop for Person in Your Life

Everyone has a person on his or her gift list that is difficult to buy for.  Many times that person gets a gift card to a large retailer because you can’t think of anything to get them.  The trick is finding out personal information about them, without letting them know you are doing it.

Suppose your friend either travels frequently or makes many calls on their cell phone.  Gifts for them could include gift certificates to their phone provider or a traveler’s merchandise magazine.  If gift certificates don’t do the trick consider getting them a subscription to a travel magazine.  Ask a friend or family member who sees them frequently what type of magazines they have on their coffee table and this will give you a clue as to their tastes.

Find out if that special someone is into sports or a specific sport.  Great gift ideas for sports fans include sports merchandise for their favorite team or tickets for them to see a game.  You can really thrill a person who has everything by purchasing them a ticket and travel accommodations to see a final game of the season for their favorite sports team.  Don’t forget the golf fanatic in this category.  Golfers love golf themed merchandise from golf balls to USGA jackets.  A great idea for golfers is a membership to the USGA or purchase tickets to a USGA golfing event for that special person.

More on Second Hand shops…

The third important rule of thrift store shopping is to know the average price for an item.  Many thrift stores will sell shoes at a fair price but these shoes can often be bought new at retail stores during their clearance sales.  Know your merchandise before you buy it and you’ll save yourself a lot of money.  The same is true for name brand clothing.  Occasionally thrift stores are unsure of the retail cost of clothing items and they may actually charge you more than the actual retail price.  Know what the cost of the item is brand new before you buy it used, especially if it is a designer label item.
